dlsite.com
DLsite has 1,900,000 registered works. That's not a typo. Games, doujinshi, Voice/ASMR, manga, CG sets. Mostly made by Japanese indie circles, some officially translated, all downloadable. You buy once, you own it forever.
No Gold. No gacha. No monthly subscription to access content you already paid for.

What Is DLsite?
DLsite launched in 1996 under the name Soft Island. It became DLsite in 2001 and added an English storefront in 2004. Today it's owned by viviON and operates as the biggest independent marketplace for Japanese doujin content in the world.
The model is simple: indie creators and small studios upload their work, you buy it at a fixed price, you download and keep it. No platform subscription. No energy system. No premium currency between you and the content.
The catalog splits into four main areas: Games, Voice/ASMR, Manga/Doujinshi, and CG + Illustrations. There's an all-ages section and a separate adult (R18 HENTAI) section. You need an account to access either.

Signing Up
Registration is free. You can use Google, Reddit, Amazon, Facebook, X, or a standard email/password. No credit card required at signup.

After registering, DLsite hands you five coupons immediately:

- ¥300 OFF any single purchase (valid 3 days)
- 25% OFF for works under 660 JPY (valid 7 days)
- 15% OFF select products (valid 3 days)
- 20% OFF select products (valid 3 days)
- 25% OFF select products (valid 3 days)
There's also a 30% OFF coupon available at the homepage for new accounts before you even log in. Stack that with the ¥300 coupon on a cheap title and your first purchase costs almost nothing.
One important difference from Nutaku: you can't browse DLsite without logging in. The catalog is behind a login wall. Registration takes under 60 seconds with Google, but it's a step Nutaku doesn't require.
What's on DLsite
Once you're in, the scope of the catalog is immediately obvious.

The navigation across the top covers everything: Game, Video, Voice/ASMR, Manga, CG + Illustrations. The R18 (HENTAI) tab takes you to the adult section. English Works is its own dedicated tab.
Voice/ASMR is bigger than most people expect. The top-selling ASMR titles on DLsite have 30,000+ downloads each. Binaural ear ASMR, voiced scenarios, VTuber-style audio content. It's its own category with a dedicated fanbase.
For games specifically: 3,824 English-language games are listed in the main browsing section, filterable by Japanese, English, Korean, Spanish, and other languages.

Prices in the grid display in USD: $2.77 for Hatoful Boyfriend complete edition, $9.68 for Homicipher, $20.75 for MACHINE CHILD. The browse view shows review counts and purchase numbers. Homicipher has 1,980 reviews. That's serious community engagement for an indie title.
Each game has a "Samples" button so you can preview artwork and screenshots before buying. No need to guess whether the art style is what you want.
Free Works
DLsite has a genuine free section. Not a "free trial". Full works released at $0.00 by their creators.

Heavy Spoilers RPG has 10,201 downloads and a 4.92/5 rating. It's a full English RPG, 528MB, available to anyone with an account at no cost. The free section includes games, manga, voice works, and CG sets.
The registration coupons also effectively make your first few purchases free or near-free depending on what you pick.
Pricing
DLsite uses a points system where 1 point = 1 Japanese Yen. You can also buy directly using your local currency: prices display in USD, EUR, or other currencies depending on your account settings.
| Price Range | What You Get |
|---|---|
| Free | Thousands of community works at $0.00 |
| Under $5 | Short doujin games, manga volumes, voice works |
| $5-$15 | Mid-length RPGs, visual novels, ASMR sets |
| $15-$25 | Longer games, premium voice packs, full doujinshi series |
| $25+ | Major indie games, premium ASMR collections |
Frequent sales run 10-50% off. The Ranking section shows what's selling, and discounted items are marked clearly in the browse grid.
You also earn points back on purchases: up to 5% in points when you use a designated payment method, which stack toward future purchases.
Paying from Outside Japan
This is the part DLsite doesn't advertise clearly. Visa and Mastercard have been suspended on DLsite since April 2024, following pressure on adult content platforms. If you try to buy directly with a Visa card, it won't work.
How to actually pay from outside Japan:
- Purchase Points via Play-Asia.com: search "DLsite Points", buy with Visa or PayPal, receive a PIN code by email, redeem on DLsite. Available in amounts from 500 points (~$3.50 USD) up.
- DLsite gift cards via OffGamers: same principle, buy a code, redeem on site.
- Tokyo Otaku Mode: sells DLsite points with standard international payment methods.
- DL-Pay with PayPal: sometimes available depending on your region and the specific item.
The points workaround works fine once you know about it. It's friction that Nutaku doesn't have, but it's a solved problem.
Downloading Your Purchases
After buying, you get access through two methods.

Direct download via the My Items section. You get a ZIP file. Extract, run the executable. No DRM on most titles.
DLsite Play is the platform's own client for managing your library.

DLsite Play lets you download, manage offline storage, and keep your library synced. It also promotes DLsite NEST, a companion app that handles the Japanese locale issue that makes some games display garbled text (mojibake) on Western PCs.
If you're buying Japanese-language games, the locale issue is real. Some games need your Windows system locale set to Japanese to run properly. DLsite NEST automates this, but it's an extra setup step that casual buyers won't expect.
Browse DLsite English Works→Free vs Paid
| Feature | Free Account | Paid Purchase |
|---|---|---|
| Browse catalog | No (login required) | Yes |
| Free works section | Yes (after login) | Yes |
| Registration coupons | Yes (5 coupons) | Yes |
| Full games | No | Yes |
| DLsite Play access | Yes | Yes |
| Download library | Per purchase | Yes |
| Lifetime ownership | Per purchase | Yes |
DLsite doesn't have a "free tier" in the companion or generator sense. You're buying individual works at fixed prices. What it does have: a genuine free section, aggressive registration coupons, and frequent sales that make the barrier to entry much lower than it looks.
What Fans Are Saying
DLsite's Trustpilot score is 2.3/5 based on a small number of reviews. The criticism is consistent: no refunds when a purchased game doesn't run, and support responses that amount to "we can't verify that, so no refund." For a platform where some titles require Japanese locale settings to run, this is a legitimate problem.
On Reddit (r/HentaiGames, r/visualnovels) and in gaming communities, the picture is more balanced. DLsite's reputation for having content unavailable anywhere else is well established. Fans buying specific Japanese indie games, doujin RPGs, or niche voice content don't have alternatives. The platform is the destination, not an option.
The complaints are concentrated among buyers who didn't research what they were getting. If you buy a Japanese-language application expecting it to run on a Western PC without any setup, you'll have a bad time. If you know what you're buying and set up locale correctly, the experience is fine.
DLsite vs Nutaku
Both platforms cover hentai games. They're structured completely differently.
| DLsite | Nutaku | |
|---|---|---|
| Model | Buy once, own forever | Free-to-play with Gold purchases |
| Content | Doujin games, manga, ASMR, CG | Browser and download games |
| Language | Mostly Japanese, 3,800+ English | Mostly English |
| Browse without account | No | Yes |
| Free content | Free works section | Free-to-play games |
| Payment (international) | Requires workaround | 196+ methods including PayPal |
| Refunds | None | Poor but exists |
Nutaku is the entry point for someone new to hentai games. DLsite is where you go when you know what you want and want to own it outright.
Who Should Use DLsite
Use it if: You want to own specific games or doujinshi permanently. The catalog of completed Japanese indie games, visual novels, and ASMR content has no equivalent in English-language storefronts. Buy once, keep forever.
Look elsewhere if: You want easy payment from a Western card (Nutaku handles this better), or you need English translation as a guarantee (most DLsite content is Japanese-only).
For the registration coupons: The 30% off + ¥300 new account bonus makes your first purchase very cheap. Use it on something you actually want. The coupons expire within days.
1,900,000 works is not a number you find anywhere else. If you know the Japanese indie game or doujin you want, DLsite is where you get it. The payment friction is real but solvable. The catalog is unmatched.
